Abstract: Field research revealed new and updated information about localities of rare,

threatened or endemic plants for this part of Bulgaria. This information will be useful for the new

edition of The Red Data Book of Bulgaria.

Middle Danube plain, in drainage canals and fishponds in the locality

,,Gerena“, village of Obnova, 11. 09.1999, and in the central drainage canal

in the Belene floodplain, 4.06.2001.

This rare species is enlisted in Annex I of the Bern Convention and Annex

II of Council Directive 92/43/EEC. The distribution of the species in the past

included some of the marshes along the Danube (drained down today), rice

fields along the Maritza river in the Thracian valley and floods along the

Struma River at the village of Chuchuligovo ( Ах т а р о в , Й о р д а н о в ,
