Browich, Zielinski (1977) revised part of the materials from

Celtis glabrata

Willd. Later Cherneva (2000) referred

materials collected from the Danube Plain (Butovo, Musselievo and Evlogievo)

by the author as the second species. According to Cherneva (2000) the species

is spread in the Danube plain, the Black Sea coast, North-Eastern Bulgaria

LJ-43; SC (

); SO-100684,100685,100031,100032

Middle Danube Plain, near the town of Belene, on sandy coast, with fruits,

21. 10. 1999, and flowers, 3. 10. 2000.

The locality covers an area of about 2 ha. Some of the dunes have been

destroyed during excavations works, and a secondary plant community has

been formed with the following composition:

Corispermum nitidum

Kit,

Chenopodium botris

L.,

Bromus tectorum

L.,

Bryum argenteum

H e d w. The

species has a very branched habitus. At the end of the year the wind picks the

stems up and carries them around which gives the place a desert-like appearance.

Although the population is stable and numerous, it is threatened because of

its isolation and significant human interference. Until now this rare species has

been found on the Black Sea coast, and in a single locality along the Danube

River, in the area of the town of Lom, with single specimens ( Й о р д а н о в ,

К у з м а н о в , 1966; К у з м а н о в , 1984). It is possible to find the plant in

other spots along the Bulgarian section of the Danube river.
