During the recent years it was found in some draining canals and fish nurseries
(village of Orsoya) along the Danube River (Dimitrov, 1999).
Its populations are isolated and small in numbers. Four specimens represent
the species in the newly found locality, the rest have been destroyed during
clearing of the canal in September 1999. A programme for its reintroduction
needs to be applied, as it has already been done for the species
Nymphea alba
L. in order to save it from extinction.
