Page Background

If urgent and adequate measures are not taken for these species, a danger for

its existence will emerge. As alternative for use we offer to cultivate

Rheum

palmatum var. tanguticum

Maxim, which shows a good adaptation in Bulgarian

conditions, and has a high content of anthracene derivatives (more than 4,5%)

( Е в с т а т и е в а , 1987; П р о т и ч , Е в с т а т и е в а , 1989; E v s t

a t i e v a, 1999 ).

SPECIES UNDER RESTRICTED REGIME OF USE

The increasing interest in medicinal plants concern traditionally used herbs,

such as

Valeriana officinalis

L.,

Menyanthes trifoliata

L.,

Adonis vernalis

L.,

Inula helenium

L.,

Rubia tinctorum L., Althaea officinalis

L.

Atropa belladonna

L. bringing up the important issue o f the protection and reasonable utilization.

Now, their natural resources are restricted.

VALERIANA OFFICINALIS L.

The study on the distribution of the species within the 60 populations in

the country, indicated the great forms variety, which is geographically

differentiated, as well as ecologically, cytologically and phytochemically, into

two subspecies and four cytotypes:

V. officinalis

ssp.

collina

(Wallr.) Numan

(

V.collina

Wa l l r . ) , cytotype

collina (2n =

28) and cytotype

illirica

(2

n

= 14)

and V,

officinalis ssp. officinalis (V.nitida

Kreyer s.str.j, cytotype

nitida

(2n=28)

and cytotype

officinalis

(У.

officinalis

L.s.str.)(2n = 14) (E v s t a t i e v a, 1996;

E v s t a t i e v a, et al. 1992). The best form of distribution with higher content

of biologically active substances has been selected from

V. officinalis

ssp.

officinalis

cytotype

nitida.

It is cultivated as an important cultivar in our

country.

MENYANTHES TRIFOLIATA

L,,

ADONIS VERNALIS L„ INULA HELENIUM

L.,

ALTHAEA OFFICINALIS L., ATROPA BELLADONNA

L.

Plant breeding of these species resulted in improving the varieties, adapted

to cultivation in the country. Technologies for cultivation of valuable plants,

using the bioagricultural methods have been developed ( Е в с т а т и е - в а ,

К у н ч е в, 2001; Е в с т а т и е в а , 1999; П р о т и ч , Е в с т а т и е -

в а, 1994)

In vitro

propagation for the cultivation of the best forms of

Atropa belladonna,

with a high percentage of biologically active substances, has been used for

producing of standardized drug (D i m i t г о v a et al., 1996).

CONCLUSION

The results of the investigation of 14 endangered medicinal plants, confirmed

the limited distribution of their genetic resources. More of them are with
