Hydroxymethylgluraryl-CoAreductase (HMGR, EC 1.1.1.34) regulates

the synthesis of mevalonic acid (MVA), the specific precursor of diverse

isoprenoid compounds functional in plant biochemical processes. The high

levels of sequence identity in the plant's hmg mutigene family create the

possibility o f application the antisence-RNA technique to inhibit hmg gene

expression in the wide range of plants. We have constructed the full length

hmg1 (Arabidopsis thaliana

) gene and conservative domains by polymerase

chain reaction (PCR). It was shown that using of the PCR primers for the

conservative domains of

hmg1 (Arabidopsis thaliana)

can produce the

conservative domains hmg (Nicotiana tabacum). We made a conclusion

about availability of antisense-RNA technique for inhibition of the hmg gene

expression in plants.

The full length antisense

hmg1

gene was cloned into plant expression

vector pAP2034. We suppose to transformate of the different plants by using

this construction (pPR13) in order to understand effects of

hmg

gene

expression modification.
