Photosynthetic function to a large extent depends on processes of

growth and development o f a plant. Using cell and tissue cultures to study

photosynthesis processes w ill allow to find out if the plants, obtained via

in

vitro

method, are able to form a normal photosynthetic apparatus (PA), and

how it is reflected on the further life of the plant, grown under

in vivo

conditions.

T he re was m ade a com pa rison o f grow th ch a ra c te ris tic s and PA

characteristics, taken fo rtwo kinds of Saintpaulia - Festivalnaya and Magia,

bred by traditional propagation from leaf stalks and microclonal propagation

on MS medium w ith optim ized concentration o f phytohormons. The

observations were made during the process o f adaptation of the plant to its

independent growth under

in vivo

conditions. Plants o f kinds Festivalnaya

and Magia d iffer from each other by intensivity of growth processes and by a

number o f structural and functional organization characteristics of PA, such

as the number o f chloroplasts per cell, pigment concentration per square

un it and per ch loroplast, pho toregene ra tive ac tiv ity o f chloroplasts.

Micropropagation of Saintpaulia

in vitro

has intensified the growth processes

o f plants during their further cultivation

in vivo,

and this intensification has

been indicated by increasing o f dry biomass of the plant and its leaves, as

well as by increasing o f a number of tiers grown during the same period o f

time. While micropropagation Saintpaulia

in vitro,

the number o f chloroplasts

per cell and the synthesis o f pigments per square unit and per chloroplast

increase, the correlation between chlorophyll changes. There was shown

the changes of these characteristics for different kinds of plants. There was

found out the interrelation between pigment concentration and growth indexes,

as well as negative correlation between proportions of chlorophyll a and

chlorophyll b and growth indexes. W ith the transition from traditional

propagation method to micropropagation

in vitro

an amplification of interrelation

between pigment concentrations per square unit of leaf is observed. Factor

analysis has shown that propagation of Saintpaulia

in vitro

above all influences

the growth processes, its influence on structural and functional indexes of

PA is secondary.
