EuroƟa ceratoides

(L.) is a promising fodder plant for the degraded arid pastures of the Caspian. It is a xerophyƟc

semi-shrub growing on sandy soil, rocky slopes, desert rivers’ terraces, and in the mountains. It is a valuable graz-

ing fodder and remarkably soil and air drought resistant. In the flowering stage it contains 10.3–13.2 % protein, 1.5–

2.2 % fat, 0.55–0.60 FU per 1 kg DM. It is well grazed by sheep, horses and camels. Our recent studies showed that

euroƟa is a polymorphic species with an array of infraspecific ecological and geographical groups such as ecotypes,

cenopopulaƟons, and biotypes. They have various environment response spectrum and therefore different poten-

Ɵals of adaptability and producƟvity. Therefore the breeding value of euroƟa is determined by the complex of the

intraspecific ecotypes and biotypes. Our aim was to study and evaluate the intraspecific groups of euroƟa and se-

lect the most high-yielding and hardy specimen for further breeding. The results show significant differences be-

tween euroƟa ecotypes in terms of ecology, biology and agricultural value. The studied euroƟa specimen were as-

sessed by their DM and crude protein yields in 2011–2013. The highest DM yields were recorded for the specimen
