New

in vitro

methodes are widely used to accelerate the development

o f onion hybrids F1. The two-years regeneration time, the outbreeding and

therefore high heterozygous nature, inbreeding depression of lines make

useful the using o f tissue culture techniques. Cytoplasmic male-sterile lines

are used to breed onion hybryds.

In vitro

methodes have an importent part in

the development and maintance of male-sterile clones.

M icroclonal propogation methodes of onion male-sterile lines are

developed. The initial explants are the parts o f immature inflorescences.

Surface is sterilized in sodium hypochlorite for 10 min. At first explants are

placed on the bulb-induction mtdium M.-S. supplemented with BAP (4 mg/

+l) and NAA (4 mg/l) fo r 2 monthes, then explants replaced on the shoot-

induction medium with IBA (1 mg/l) fo r 3 monthes. As the result about 2-3

m icrobulbs (till 8) develop in each tube. A ll cultures are maintained under

conditions 16-h photoperiod, 12-15 th. lux intensivity light, at 20-22 C.

Adaptation o f m icrobulbs takes place on the peat "Dvina" or the ion

exchangeable nutrient substrate (Inst. Physics, Bel. Acad. Sci.). Annualy

we m icropropagate 8-10 onion male-sterile lines and obtain about 600

microbulbs. Plants are involved in heterothis breeding process.
