Cultivation o f plant cells and tissues

in vitro

opens new possibilities in

research of phenolic metabolism. Formation of phenolic compounds in callus

and cell cultures is low than in plant. The introduction o f hormones or

hormonelike effectors, various carbone sources, precursors and others factors

usually plays the important role in the production of phenolic compounds.

Metabolism o f phenylpropanoids, flavonoids and lignins was investigated in

callus tissues of tea plant accumulating big amounts o f phenolic compounds.
