Plant defensins is a group o f relatively small (30-50 amino acids) cys-
rich peptides. They are active against a broad range o f phytopathogenic
fungi and some bacteria species. The defensins in significant concentrations
are found in seeds of cultivated plants used in the human's food. So the
ecological safety of defensins is out of doubt.
To promote the plant's resistance to fungal infections the some species
o f tobacco, horseradish, carrot, apple, potato and tomato were transformed
by defensin's genes from amarant
(Amaranthus caudatus)
and radish
(
Raphanus sativus)
under the control of 35S-promoter. The optimal variants
of cultural media were developed for regeneration and propagation of potato
sp. Desire and tomato species Beliy Naliv and Peremoga. The transgenic
origin o f tobacco and horseradish plants was successfully proved with the
help o f analyses o f the presence defensin's genes DNA and NPT-activity in
plant tissues.
