Plant ability for induction of morphogenetic processes in anther culture

is widely used in fundamental and applied investigations. At the same time

the genetic control o f characters defining this processes is not studied

enough. The aim of this work was to study the peculiarities of the expression

of such characters as number of responding anthers, total number of

embryoids, number of albino and green regenerants in reciprocal hybrids of

first generation and their parental forms. Earlier obtained wide hybrid material

including more than 80 combinations from reciprocal crosses of soft and

hard wheat as well as T. aestivum with another Triticum species was used

as plant material fo r the investigation. Formation of embryoids and latter

regenerants has been induced in most studied forms. Comparative estimation

of the results showed that is some combinations interspecific and intervarietal

crosses remarkably change values of the investigated parameters in hybrids

of first generation as compared with parental forms. The effect could be both

positive and negative. Strong differences were observed also depending on

cross direction. For example no responding anthers were found in hybrids

between varieties Kitt and Ciano in direct combination (Kitt x Ciano). At the

same time 16,39% of responding antherswere found in reciprocal combination

that reliably exceeded both parents (Ciano -1,08%, Kitt -11,20%). In some

cases both hybrids and parental forms had similar trait values.

Thus, reliable reciprocal differences at interspecific and intervarietal levels

on characters defining wheat plant ability to morphogenetic processes

induction in anther culture have been revealed. This supports data about

possible involvement of the cytoplasmic genetic systems in determination

of these parameters.
