The main objective of this investigation was the creation of easy

reproducible method of intact rice plants.

Materials for this investigation were anthers of some rice varieties from

All Russian Rice Research institute collection, mature and non-mature seeds.

Results are as follows:

1. High dispersed cell suspension cultures with great morphogenetic

potential is the best source of viable protoplasts.

2. At the first step of wall synthesis and first mitotic division it is necessary

to cultivate protoplast under conditions of high osmotic pressure because of

lysis danger. The nutrient medium MS + Gamborg’s B5 vitamins is more

suitable.

3. For morphogenesis induction in protoplast cultures nutrient agarized

media MS + B5-vitamins or N6 with cytokinins is recommended to use.

On the basis of created scheme the plants from protoplasts of red rice,

varieties B3(F8 x Kulon) and 1430 x KP-1352-87 are regenerated. The obtained

results are the basis for cell and gene engineering o f rice.
