EFFECTIVE FORAGE PRODUCTION AS A SUCCESS

OF ANTIRECESSIONARY MEASURES IN DAIRY CATTLE FARMING

The arƟcle analyzes the current situaƟon of dairy farming development in the corporate farms located in the Smo-

lensk region. The fodder usage was monitored in the short- and mid-run. The dependence of milk yields on the

balanced feeding, breed specificity and animal welfare is substanƟated. Using the example of two corporate dairy

farms located in Vyazma district of the Smolensk region, the appropriateness of operaƟons research and system

dynamics methodology was assessed for the purpose of coordinaƟng the farm’s investment plan with the sec-

toral anƟrecessionary programme. It was shown that this methodology lets one to avoid the economic losses as

large as the amount of the state monetary support for dairy farming development. This support is carried out in

the framework of the regional programme of agriculture development. The anƟrecessionary measures for dairy

sector are carried out on the basis of the opƟmal planning and system dynamics models. This arƟcle shows the

models of mid- and short-term planning of the corporate farm producƟon structure. These models enable well-

balanced investment decisions and reflect the processes occurring on the farm with a reasonable preciseness.

They also allow defining the basic producƟon parameters, the opƟmal structure of the livestock by animal classes

and the opƟmal diets. With the help of these models one can also comprehend which acƟons are required to in-

crease the efficiency in the dairy milk sector. The set of suggested means lets the two studied farms to overcome

the recession and to re-establish the regular economic reproducƟon process, which is confirmed by the analysis

of economic efficiency of commercial acƟvity of the farms in compliance with the opƟmal plan. Based on the an-

nual producƟvity of the cows, the opƟmal diets (balanced by the basic nutrients for each animal class) for both

stall and pasture feeding periods as well as the feeding norms are set. The fodder base is calculated and analyzed

on the basis of the diets set. As a conclusion, the area of applicaƟon of the developed methodology is discussed.
