Saintpaulia is one of favorite plants of home floriculture with a large

variety o f decorative cultivars and forms. For industrial culture of saintpaulia

the interest represents the reception of the healthy material with increased

propagation factor, that is reached at microclonal propagation level. This

precedes induction o f sterile culture w ith phytohormones insertion.

Morphogenesis of different cultivars of Saintpaulia

in vitro

is not identical.

We have investigated character of morphogenesis in 15 cultivars and

forms of Saintpaulia under the exogenous hormones addition in MS medium.

It was found out, that for some cultivars adventive sprouts were formed with

a cytokinin alone (without auxin addition). For other cultivars the necessary

condition of growth beginning in culture was the appropriate combination of

auxins and cytokinins.

For introduction of Saintpaulia into

in vitro

culture kinetin was more

preferable to use among the cytokinins; N6BA delays the growth beginning

and causes its oppression. Among the auxins good results gave NAA.

The tissues adapted fo rsubcultivation (cv. March) gave large amount of

adventive sprouts with furtherdevelopment from them plant crowns and were

able to form the roots in the medium with fourfold prevalence of cytokinins

over auxins. The cv. Yasenevo, cv. Baikal and forms Cherry and Bordeaux in

the same medium formed morphogenic calli. Mentioned above cultivars were

quickly differentiated with adventive sprouts formation; the calli from forms

Cherry and Bordeaux were extremely rhizogenic.

At reduction of auxin quantity in medium with prevalence of exogenous

cytokinin in 40 times was observed a formation of one or several adventive

buds. Their further development was weakened, therefore it is necessary

carrying over medium without hormones or with increasing of auxin quantity.
