in substratum w as carried o u t for estim ation o f polym orphism o f this characteristics in
populations
Betula pendula
from N orth-W est region o f R ussia and for determ ination o f
possibility o f in vitro selection o f resistant cions for application in planting tow n-trees.
E xperim ents w as carried o u t w ith birch m icrografts and calluses tissue. M urashige and
Skoog m edium (w ithout horm ones fo r m icrografts and w ith 2,4-D for calluses) w as used.
M edium w ithout N aC l w as used as control. M edium w ith concentrations 0,05M , 0,1M ,
0,3M , 0,35M o f N aC l per litre w as used for estim ation. H eight increm ent o f linear size o f
m icrografts w as used as index o f growth. A rea horisontal proection (as area o f ellipse)
increm ent w as used as index o f calluses growth.
G row th intensity o f m icrografts w as depressed in directly proportional to increase
o f N aC l concentrations in m edium . Grow th o f m icrografts and existance o f chlorophyll in
leaves w as observed on m edium w ith concentration o f salt 0,05M /l and
Lethality
o f all m icrografts was observed if concentration o f salt w as higher. Strong dependence o f
supression o f calluses grow th w asn't observed in m edium w ith low (0,05 M /l) and high
(0,35 M /l) concentrations o f N aC l. It wasn't detected o f differences in reaction o f callus
tissues and m icrografts for salt influence in vitro culture am ong birch cions w ich w as
studied in this investigation.
