EVALUATION AND PROSPECTS OF THE RUSSIAN AGRO-FOOD COMPLEX
EXPORT POTENTIAL DEVELOPMENT

Russia has a significant potenƟal for integraƟon into the world agro-food system. The essence, the formaƟon features and export potenƟal development of the agro-
food complex are due to the mulƟfuncƟonality of the research object. In the condiƟons of crisis phenomena, the agro-food complex of Russia shows posiƟve dynamics.
The volume of producƟon in agriculture in 2016 increased by 63.9% compared with 2000, in the food industry — by 93.1%. During the period under study, the volume
of food products and agricultural raw materials exports increased by 10.5 Ɵmes. However, the share of food and agricultural raw materials in total exports in 2016 was
only 6.0 Growth in supply has had an impact on reducing the physical capacity of domesƟc markets. For example, the physical capacity of the domesƟc market for
meat products decreased by 48.6% in 2016 compared to 2010. Excessive growth in the volume of agricultural products producƟon can lead to oversaturaƟon of the
domesƟc market, decrease in the profitability of domesƟc producers, worsening the financial situaƟon in the industry. This allows to expand the volume and structure
of country’s agro-food complex export potenƟal. CompeƟƟve posiƟons of Russian commodity producers in the world food market have improved. Russia’s compeƟ-
Ɵveness in the market of cereals, vegetable oil and animal fats has been strengthened. From 2012 to 2016 there was a significant change in the compeƟƟveness of
products in the milling industry and individual products of animal origin. The development of the export potenƟal of Russia’s agro-food complex should be aimed
at diversifying exports, increasing the export of products with high added value. For this, the formaƟon of new compeƟƟve advantages is necessary: introducƟon of
resource-saving and innovaƟve technologies, orientaƟon to intensive development methods. This will require the transformaƟon of the export policy and measures
of state support for Russian exports.
