The same regularity is to be observed in many other plants to other

diseases. E .g .

Plasmodiophora brassicae

does not distinguish even such diffe

rent genera of

Cruciferae,

as

Barbarea, Arabis, Lepidium, Raphanus

, etc...

Hence it is quite, natural that, notwithstanding many attempts to find

'varieties of cabbage really immune to this fungus, such have not been found

and cannot be found.

Sclerotinia trifoliorum

infects not only

TrifoUum,

but

Medicago, Onob-

rychis

and other genera of

Papilionaceae

, hence there are no varieties of

clover immune to this fungus.

On the other hand many species of parasitic fungi, belon

ging to

Perenosporaceae, Erysiphaceae, Uredinaceae

are narrowly specia

lised, hence the existence of varieties immune to these parasites.

E.

Melamspora lini

Tul. is very narrowly specialised and the biolo

gical race of this fungus, which attacks ordinary flax does not infect other

Kirchner in his papers (the last of 1916) indicates a number of varieties of wheat

immune to stinking smut. But many of these immune varieties proved to be susceptible

in Hocke’s experiments, as well as "in the author’s experiments (e. g. T. monocoecumr

T. durum var. affine) and the author doubts the immunity (at least physiological) of the

other varieties of Prof. Kirchner. The method of infection used by Prof. Kirchner is-

not irreprovable.
