Tobacco and makhorka (Ntkotiana rustica) as material for the extraction of
citric acid.
A. Schmuck.
SUMMARY.
In the present paper the author is considering tobacco and makhorka as
material for the practical extraction of citric acid.
The content of citric acid in makhorka is often reaching as high as 10—ll°/0.
Its mean content is 6 — 7% and it seldom falls below 5°/0. (The mean content in
lemons is 3,5°/o—5,0°/o). This circumstance has suggested to the author the idea
to use makhorka for the extraction of citric acid. Different methods of extraction
have been tried by the author, some of which gave good results and have been
tested on a large scale.
