Sargsyan 1 , G.V. Grigoryan 1 , K. Chumburidze 2 Introduction The development of international relations and improvement of means of transport influenced the change in geographical range of transboundary animal diseases, whose foci remained in developing countries. Transboundary animal diseases are not only one of the main factors hindering the development of worldwide livestock production but they also produce negative effects on the global international trade (4, 10). Among the most dangerous transboundary diseases is African Swine Fever (ASF), which causes economic damages amounting to millions dollars (9, 11). In June 2007 the World Animal Health Organization (OIE) announced the ASF outbreak in the territory of Georgia, where the disease became a devastating epidemic, which covered swine population in almost all regions. The work was aimed at examination of the natural history of the ASF emergence in the region as well as at detection of a complex of factors related to possible disease introduction in the Republic of Armenia (RA).
