"Zhlobin” State Poultry Breeding Plant, Byelorussian SSR A highly-productive flock of ducks has been raised at this plant. The ducks are well adapted to the climatic conditions of the western part of the Soviet Union and are widely distributed in this zone. They possess high reproductive qualities and vitality of adult poultry. Egg production of ducks— 160 eggs a year. Work is being conducted to develop specialized lines of the ducks, distinguished for their great live weight and maturity of poultry meat. The Ukrainian Scientific Research Institute of Poultry Breeding The institute together with the State Poultry Breeding Plant “Arzhenka” has bred the large grey goose by the reproductive inbreeding of Romen and Touluse geese. Average live weight of ganders constitutes 7.8 kg, of geese — 6.5 kg. Annual egg production — 50 eggs, fertility of eggs — 92%, hatchabi- lity — 75%. When intensively crammed the live weight of 60-day old goslings constitutes from 4.6 to 4.8 kg. Survival of young stock — 98%. Chinese Geese The Chinese geese are used in inbreeding with other geese as the paternal form. Egg production of geese — 73 eggs a year. Fer­ tility — 98.5%. The Chinese geese easily acclimatize themselves to any zone of the country and are well adapted to intensive upkeep condi­ tions. Selection is conducted in the way of improving the meat qualities without affecting egg production. Vishtines Geese Average live weight of 12-month old ganders — 6.5 kg\ maxi­ mum — 8.7 kg. Weight of geese — 6 kg\ maximum — 7.3 kg. Average annual egg production of geese constitutes 41 eggs. The geese are crammed in a short period of time and their meat is of high quality. Selection work is being carried in order to accelerate maturity of poultry meat and to improve the reproductive qualities and egg production of the geese. The Vishtines geese are used in inbreeding as the maternal form with Chinese ganders.
