Russian white hens. They are well adapted to the humid climatic conditions of the Baltic countries. In 1965 the egg production per laying hen out of a flock of 20.8 thousand hens constituted 229 eggs. Egg weight — 58 gm. Work is being conducted to raise highly-productive combining lines. Moscow White Hens The Moscow white hens were raised at the All-Union Scientific Research and Technological Institute of Poultry Breeding by means of the reproductive inbreeding of three specialized breeds. Colour of feathering — white; comb — rose-shaped. Average annual egg production— 192 eggs. Live weight of hens when 12 months old — 2.9 kg; of cocks — 3.6 kg; chick hatcha- bility from deposited eggs — 80%. At the present time the Moscow white hens are being used for developing synthetic lines of meat hens. The Ukrainian Scientific Research Institute of Poultry Breeding is carrying out work with a line of 20 Rhode Island hens which is being perfected as the maternal form to be utilized in inbreed­ ing with other specialized lines of hens in the production of broilers. Annual egg production — 216 eggs per laying hen. Egg w eight- 56 gm. The hens of this line possess high reproductive qualities. Chick hatchability from deposited eggs — 83%. The hen is well adapted to the climatic conditions of the south. Work with this line is being continued. “Obilnen” State Poultry Breeding Plant, Stavropol Territory The “Obilnen” plant is conducting work with north Caucasian turkeys which are widely distributed on conditions of dry steppe climate. Line “Л ” has been raised according to its easily-riping meat qualities and high reproductive characteristics. Annual egg production — 120 eggs; hatchability from deposited eggs — 75% and over; insemination — 90%.
