An extensive programme of expanding the production of poultry products is being effected in the Soviet Union. Operating at the present time in the country are 630 large spe­ cialized poultry plants which produce poultry eggs and meat, and in the course of the current 5-year plan there will be 1.5 times as many such plants in the country. Alongside with the poultry plants a wide network of specialized industrial poultry farms has been created in collective and state farms. These farms operate on a cooperative basis with pure- strain reproducers, incubative stations, combined fodder plants and poultry combines. Thus, a scientifically grounded poultry breeding system has been created which incorporates three basic organizational forms of intensive poultry breeding: specialized pure-strain farms (genetic selection stations, poultry breeding plants, reproducers); poultry plants with a complete production cycle specializing in the output of poultry eggs or meat; specialized industrial collective and state farms. The construction of new and the expansion of the existing poultry breeding husbandries is being carried out on the basis of maximum concentration and specialization of production. 4 Электронная Научная СельскоХозяйственная Библиотека
