A d ler S ilv er H en The Adler silver hens were raised by the specialists of the Adler Poultry Plant together with the Pushkin laboratory of agricul­ tural animal study by means of reproductive inbreeding of four specialized breeds. The hens are well adapted to the climatic conditions of the subtropics. The live weight of the hens when 12 months old is 2.8 kg, of cocks — 4.2 kg. Average annual production — from 190 to 200 eggs. At the present time work is being conducted in the way of perfecting the productive qualities of the Adler hens so that they can be used as the maternal form in producing broilers, combined with Kornish and red white-tailed cocks. “Kuchinsk” State Poultry Breeding Plant, Moscow Region On display are hens of the Russian white breed. The “Kuchinsk” Poultry Breeding plant is the leading breeding plant with respect to creating breeds of Russian white hens of the heavy type which are well adapted to the housing and cli­ matic conditions of the central zone of the Soviet Union. Live weight of the hens when 12 months old ranges from 2 to 2.2 kg, of cocks — from 2.5 to 2.8 kg. Egg production ranges 200 eggs per laying hen. Egg weight — 60 gm (depending on lines). In recent years several specialized lines of the hens have been developed. “Krasniy Kut” State Poultry Breeding Plant, Saratov Region The plant has developed a highly-productive flock of Russian white hens of the light type. Annual egg production — over 216 eggs per laying hen. The plant accommodates 37 thousand adult hens. These hens possess high reproductive qualities and are well adapted to conditions of the dry and severely continental cli­ mate of the Volga River area.
