Two combining lines of White Leghorn hens — 84 and 142 and line К — Avstrolorp hens are displayed at the exhibition. In 1965 263 eggs were obtained from the line 84 hens per average annual laying hen, and 268 eggs from the line 142 hens. Average egg weight — 58 to 59 gm. The cross hens of these lines lay 288 eggs. They are well adapted to the conditions of the north-western zone and are widely used in the husbandries of the Baltic countries. Line К of the Avstrolorp hens is bred for high egg production. In 1965 the average egg production of the hens of this line constituted 262 eggs. Egg weight — 59 gm. This line is readily combined with line 84. The hybrid obtained by inbreeding line К (maternal form) with line 84 (paternal form) is distinct for its high production. In 1965 the average egg production of this hybrid constituted 302 eggs. Egg weight — 57 gm. "Ketrosy” Experimental Farm of the Moldavian Agricultural Institute This experimental farm works with two combining lines of the White Leghorn hens. In 1965 an average of 245 eggs was obtained per laying hen from pure line Кз. Egg weight — 61 gm. In 1965 this line placed second at the testing contest and was awarded the second prize of the Ministry of Agriculture of the RSFSR. In 1965 225 eggs were obtained per laying hen from the hens of the K 2 line. These lines are readily combined and ensure the increase of egg production of hybrid hens by 10 to 12%. These hens are distributed in the husbandries ot the south western and central zones of the Soviet Union. “Sakala” State Poultry Breeding Plant of the Estonian SSR Exhibited are the combining lines of White Leghorn lines A, В, C which are specialized according to egg production. The cross of these lines creates hybrids with an egg production of 250 eggs. These hens are distributed in the Estonian SSR, Lithuanian SSR, the Ukrainian SSR and in the husbandries of the Russian Fede ration. Электронная Научная СельскоХозяйственная Библиотека
