HALL EXHIBITING PRODUCTION OF POULTRY MEAT ON INDUSTRIAL BASIS In recent years the production of broiler meat has undergone extensive development. The “Krasniy” Poultry Plant in the Crimean Region has a pro­ duction capacity of 3 million broilers a year. Weight of a broiler of the best groups 60 days old is 1.5 kg, food consumption 2.2 kg per 1 kg live weight. Utilized for the production of broilers are the Kornish line serving as the paternal line and the White Rock line as the maternal line. The All-Union Research and Technological Institute of Poultry Breeding (Moscow Region) has worked out at the Zagorsk experimental station a method of creating combining artificial meat line hens and a technological process of producing broilers. For this purpose the institute built a broiler plant with a capa­ city of 1.2 million broilers. The State Breeding Plant “Bolshevik” in the Leningrad Region is perfecting the meat quality of primary line hens of the Sussex, red white-tailed and Kornish breeds. Live weight of three-breed hybrids 70 days old— 1.5 kg. Food consumption per 1 kg weight gain — 2.3 kg. The Berezovsk Poultry Breeding Plant, Krasnoyarsk Territory, produces three million broilers a year for the builders of the Bratsk Hydro-electric Power Station. On display in the hall is a model of the general plan of a poultry plant which produces 3 million broilers a year, as well as a fragment of the “Broiler-10” with the chicks housed in a brooder house. Turkeys are raised in almost all the climatic zones of the Soviet Union", at poultry plants, industrial collective and state farms. Turkey meat is highly evaluated thanks to its dietary qualities. The “Obilnen” Poultry Breeding Plant, Stavropol Territory deals with turkey lines of the north Caucasian breed. Heavy and light lines are being developed. The average weight of a 90-day old turkey-poult is: heavy type — 5 kg, light type — 4 kg. The “Arkhangelsk” State Farm, Krasnodar Territory, is a repro­ ducer of black Tikhoretsk turkey lines of the light type. Hybrid turkey-poults when 90 to 100 days old weigh 4 kg on the average. Edible meat yield — 63%. The Starinsk Poultry Plant in the Kiev Region is conducting pure-strain work and is raising turkey-poults for meat. Together with its filial husbandries it produces 4 thousand tons of meat a year. One turkey with offspring vileds 340 kg of meat and lays 94 eggs. The “Maikop” State Farm in the Adigey autonomous region produces 350 tons of turkey meat a year. "Work is being carried on here with white turkeys. Average weight of turkey of mother flock — from 7 to 8 kg , turkey-cocks — from 12 to 14 kg. The Chapayev Turkey Breeding State Farm in the Kirovograd Region yearly raises more than 20 thousand turkey-poults of the white breed. Average live weight of turkey when 110 days old — 4 kg. A model of the general plan of the Tokarevsk Poultry Plant in the Kharkov Region which houses 250 thousand turkeys is exhibited.
